Household Garbage and Refuse: The new refuse pick-up schedule for the Town of Trail Creek begins Tuesday, April 3rd.  From that date forward refuse will be picked up on Tuesdays.  This will in no way affect the recycling schedule.  Recycling will continue to be every other Thursday, with the next pick-up scheduled for April 12th for the Town.

Yard Waste: Yard waste comprised of grass clippings, mulched leaves, thatch, sticks and twigs is picked up every Wednesday, beginning the first Wednesday in April through the last Wednesday in October. Yard waste must be in containers or paper bags. Sticks and branches may be tied in bundles no larger than 4 feet in length and 18 inches in diameter. Paper yard waste bags are available at the Town Hall (five (5), 33 gallon bags for $2).

Recycling: Recycling is picked up every other Thursday by Able Disposal.
Recyclable materials include PET #'s 1-7 (that little number printed inside the recycling symbol on most plastic items), glass with labels on, tin and aluminum cans, newspapers, magazines, catalogs, phone books, corrugated cardboard and cereal, soap and food boxes. Questions about recycling should be directed to the LaPorte County Solid Waste District.

Leaf Removal: The Trail Creek Street Department will announce the date of the Spring Clean-Up soon.  If any resident has large limbs that have fallen during the recent ice storm, please note that the Street Department will be picking them up as soon as possible.  At this moment all of our truck have salt boxes and plows on them, but as soon as we are able, we will start sweeping the Town.  Watch this site or the newspaper or listen to WEFM for dates.

Snow Removal:  With snowfall season just around the corner the Trail Creek Street Department would like to remind the residents of the Snow Plowing Policy for the Town of Trail Creek.  Procedure: All main roads and fire lanes are to be cleared first until all snow has stopped.  Main roads are: Johnson Rd., Coolspring Ave., Greenwood Ave., Whippoorwill Ave., Welnetz Rd and Menke Road. Fire Lanes are:  Sarah Jo, Meadowlark Dr. Black Oak Dr. and Pine Tree Dr.  (2) With all main roads and fire lanes open, we will start plowing secondary streets. (3) When all secondary streets are finished, we plow all dead-end and cul-de-sacs and begin courtesy plowing.  A reminder that snow that is returned to the roadway by a homeowner, after the town has plowed, makes the homeowner liable if the re-deposited snow is responsible for an accident.  Please clear driveway entrances from side to side, not back into the roadway.

As in past years the Town will assist residents who receive services of visiting Nurses, Meals on Wheels or who are handicapped or disabled by clearing access areas. If assistance with snow removal is needed, call the Town Hall at 872-2422 to be put on the list.   Remember this is minimal clearing and is done after the main streets and fire routes are cleared.  If complete plowing service is needed, or if it is required early in the morning, it would be best to contract with a plowing service.
